The most appealing presidential candidate as far as I’m concerned is Ron Paul. He’s a breath of fresh air. He actually talks about the issues, and takes a real position, while the others dance around them. I don’t necessarily agree with everything he stands for; I thought his stance on abortion was a typical extremist pro-life position (the pro-choicers are also mostly extremist IMHO). Well I was wrong.

I know, I know… abortion is a dangerously polarizing issue. That’s exactly what makes me so frustrated about it. People fall into emotional, extremist positions around abortion, which destroys any hope for progressive ideas, discussion and policies. I’m not advocating for or against here, I’m just saying we’re not getting anywhere with how it’s been discussed so far.
I think his point is valid. If a mother was to give birth to a baby, and then drown that newborn, she has committed murder. But if it’s a week before birth, a doctor would be paid to terminate the pregnancy. That’s nuts. And it’s an example of how complex this issue really is. I’m not familiar with the Canadian laws around this (are third trimester abortions legal here?), but I would really like to see more people approach this from an ethical, medical, and scientific perspective. leave religion and it’s limiting and dividing views out of it. Let’s face it, no matter how pro-choice you are, no one actually wants abortions to take place, ever.

The Harper government tells us that crime is one of their priorities.
But…
Crime has been continually declining for over 20 years!
So why is this a priority?
Sounds like they’re more interested in scaring us than offering a hopeful future. It sounds a lot like what’s been going on in the US, and I don’t like it one bit.

Like my Jacob Nielson inspired passive voice headline? Only Google analytics will tell.
On my favorite news broadcast (CBC) last night, there was a piece on a couple of Canadian made electric cars. The cars are selling very well outside Canada, but the companies are struggling because they are not allowed to sell their cars here in their own market of Canada!!
Transport Canada is in the process of updating it’s regulations. So while the electric cars comply with the current standard, Transport Canada refuses to allow the sales until the regulation can be “clarified”. I call Shenanigans.
One of the company owners said it best:
“Last week the prime minister said we can’t meet our Kyoto protocols and every electric vehicle that’s on the road, you offset six tonnes of CO2 emissions, per vehicle”
UPDATE - November 6 2007 -
Due to the massive number of angry letters Transport Canada received, they have given ZENN their certification! The transport minister said he did not know about this problem. It seems to me the media are the only ones really looking out for Canadians these days… The cars still need provincial certification to get on the roads, and BC is the only one who has it so far. Ontario and Quebec have said they will fast-track their legislation.
