Here’s the global results as of June 29 from one study.
The fact is, Firefox continues to take market share from internet explorer. This is VERY good news for everyone who like’s their sites to look and work they way they should. OK, truth be told it’s probably just developers like me who care, but trust me, it’s a good thing.
I really don’t think IE 7 is that bad of a browser. It’s just that Microsoft wanted to do things their way, while the web needs it’s open standards to be adopted to enable it’s true capability.
It will probably be years before we see Firefox and other compliant browsers break the 75% mark which would make IE a browser no one would waste time developing for. Or, even more attractive would be that Microsoft wakes up and turns IE 8 into a 100% standards compliant browser. But I’m not holding my breath.
Regardless, it appears that standards compliant browsing IS being demanded, even if web users don’t know they want it.
