OK, it’s still a while yet before we can all go ga ga over Apple’s newest jewel in the flesh. But I’m starting to get less and less excited about this handset for reasons others are starting to point out.
#1 – Closed system?
If the iPhone “OS X” is closed so that only Apple/Cingular can distribute software for it, it would be a deal-killer for me. It’s bad enough that one has to agree to pay Cingular $1000 over 2 years to be able to spend $600 to get one. If the iPod is any indication, it will be closed, which means I’m out.
#2 – Tactile feedback is oh-so-lovely.
It remains to be felt what using the multi-touch interface will be like, but I have a feeling that a tactile keyboard will be better. Prove me wrong kids… prove me wrong.
#3 – Locked-out abilities?
I’m pretty sure Apple will lock out many possible features to ensure that people won’t be able to share content between iPhones. It’s frustrating enough that I have to set up low level scripts on OS X just to be able to play OUR {my wife and mine} music across logins in iTunes. No A2DP Bluetooth support would be very very bad too.
Until the iPhone was announced the Nokia N95 and HTC Kaiser {an upcoming thinner version of the HTC TyTn with GPS} were top of my list for my next handset. It remains to be seen if the iPhone can topple them.

yeah, i agree. i’m ify until i can see it myself and actually take it for a test drive as they say. but, god, its pretty.
